Scott,
When I was shopping, I also found some (seemingly) expensive used Savages. Seems they're relatively cheap to start, but don't lose alot of value with age/miles.... Keep in mind that these things (from what I've heard) are your basic "keep-changing-the-oil-and-it'll-run-forever" type bikes, so as long as it hasn't been abused, it'll probably last for a long, long time. I decided to go with a new one ('99 in Novemeber, so I got it for about $3800) largely because of the warranty. I wasn't happy with the service-side of my dealership, so I'm doing my own routine maintetnance (which is OK, warranty-wise, but once you get comfortable taking it apart, you inevitably start to tinker/modify), and have probably gone too far enough times so that my warranty is no longer valid (if they get picky). So bottom line is that new may have some advantages, but you're talking a thousand bucks! Your decision, but if she's really mint, I'd say she's worth it.....
KTRSD.
